Top Decluttering Myths, Debunked: PART TWO

Last month, we talked about decluttering and how there are many misconceptions about the process and how to accomplish a clutter-free home successfully. Decluttering doesn’t mean becoming a minimalist, and it doesn’t mean that you’re being wasteful. In fact, decluttering means that you want to prioritize peace in your space, making for a cleaner, more organized home that functions optimally. If you’ve committed yourself to control your clutter in 2023, you’re not alone, so let’s get back to some of the most common myths about the process. We’ve already talked about three myths, so be sure to refer back to last month’s blog for those.

Here are the top decluttering myths we’ve debunked…part two.

Myth #4: There’s Only One Way to Declutter

Some people believe that in order to successfully declutter your space, you need to put all or nothing into the process, but this isn’t true. There isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach to decluttering, which means that you’re free to accomplish this on your terms. Some people choose to declutter one room at a time, while others prefer to break it down into even smaller pieces and clean out one drawer at a time. Maybe you have some time off of work and want to take a few days to declutter your space. Maybe you make a detailed plan of action or maybe you don’t. There’s no right or wrong way to declutter, but we always recommend being consistent and vigilant about the process.

Myth #5: You Only Need to Declutter Once

Like we mentioned above, you need to be consistent with your decluttering efforts. This isn’t just a one-time process, it’s something that’s best kept up with for the long haul. We suggest carving out time, whether it’s once a week or once every couple of months, to go through your belongings and clear out your clutter. It’s shocking how quickly clutter can build up in the home, but by staying on a regular decluttering schedule, you’ll be able to gain control over this and keep your home operating at its best.

Myth #6: I Should Like to Declutter My Space

If you find yourself thinking that decluttering isn’t your favorite chore, we don’t blame you! Of course, you’d rather be enjoying a good book with a cup of tea or taking advantage of a nice warm day out with the kids. The thing about decluttering is that in order to enjoy your home to the fullest, decluttering should be a project you tackle regularly. By having a clean and clutter-free home, you’ll eliminate stress and enjoy your space even more than you ever imagined.

Think of decluttering as a way to create the space you need to grow and thrive. From being more organized to feeling less stressed, decluttering can benefit you more than you realize. So, if it’s your New Year’s resolution to transform your home into a clutter-free oasis, start small, go about the process on your time, and remember everyone can declutter in their own unique way and still be successful.
