Holiday Moving Tips
'Tis the season to spread festive cheer! The holidays are here and that means a frenzy of cookie baking, gift wrapping, celebrating and so much more! It's a busy time of the year as it is, but when you add a move into the mix, the holiday season has the potential to get a little out of hand if you're not prepared. Often times you can't predict when a move will occur, and although it's not the ideal time, you may be faced with moving during the holidays. No matter the circumstance of your move, whether it's due to a job opportunity or downsizing due to new needs in your life, it can be difficult to get it all done around the holidays. But fear not! We've compiled some helpful holiday moving tips to help you streamline your move AND enjoy the holidays at the same time.
Create a Packing Plan
Having a plan of how you're going to handle your move is a big help, especially if you're moving during a hectic time of the year. We advise that you get organized as soon as you can, so that you're ready once moving day arrives. It seems as though time speeds up around the holidays and before you know it, it's a brand new year, full of endless possibilities! If you're moving around this time of the year or even at the beginning of next year, start early and make a plan. It's helpful to pack room by room and have a designated area to store all of your packed boxes, like a garage area or an empty room. This way you can be sure that nothing gets lost in the shuffle.
Safety First
Although the holidays are a magical time of the year, it's also a time where theft begins to increase. You may be so busy running in and out of the house, grabbing boxes and moving into your new place that you don't take note of the people around you. Unlocked doors and unattended moving trucks are a beacon for thieves. Be sure to stay alert and stay safe by:
Keeping your doors locked
Storing packed boxes in a locked area
Utilizing a security system (if applicable)
Being aware of your surroundings
With all the activity and all the people likely to be around during a move, you may not notice if an unfamiliar face is lurking around. That's why we say stay safe and stay alert.
Enjoy the Holidays
Finally, don't let the idea of moving hold you back from celebrating the holidays! Leave a couple of small decorations out, so that you can still decorate and try and partake in some holiday festivities around town. You may have a lot on your mind, so reduce stress levels and have some holiday fun by getting out and enjoying a holiday parade or a gathering somewhere to keep in the holiday spirit.
The holidays are a wonderful time of the year that you can share with family and loved ones. Keep these tips in mind for your holiday move and remember to celebrate the joy of the season!
